Welcome to my horror fest. How scary can Flash Fiction get? Why not judge for yourself. In these short tales of the macabre I bring the Gothic into the modern. But a warning: there's no blood or gore here. I try to freeze it instead.Pick-me-up, a young adult problem novel, tells a heroic story of Katelyn fighting back against the dysfunctions of her family and her friends. While she tries to live in the right, Katelyn falls into her own problems when she hooks up with a boy full of trouble and his own addictions. This rural-Iowa teenager keeps making decisions that would lead her to the same fate of her two high school dropout sisters. Katelyn fails classes, skips school, and at one point ends up with reserved seating in the Principal's office. Katelyn’s friends back away as she begins to live up to the troubled legacy left by her family. Home life proves no better. Katelyn’s dad disappears and ends up in jail, again. The fragile relationship she has with her mother nearly breaks as Katelyn is dumped with the responsibility of caring for all her older sister’s abandoned children. Katelyn gets her own pick-me-up in the form of a charming older boy with a criminal history. Her friends and scene change as she follows him back into his bad habits. Just as she keeps faith in her family, she keeps giving Tim another chance. Only after she suffers because of her misguided love does she start to take care of herself. She's able to salvage her dignity and rebound to break the dropout streak in her family.

Here's my second volume of reasoned rants. I call it I, Society because many of the short essays are the result of my concept of socio-psychology - that the social and psychological are often mixed. The idea has led to some interesting, if off-beat takes on life, society and you. Enjoy. And if not, maybe you’re part of my concept of psycho-sociology.It is 2012. A new year, and a new era of counter-terrorism. Magnet Securities, the largest private security firm in America, leads the fight against rising domestic terror groups in the country. But do their methods make them better than the very people they hunt?Project 6 is an interactive short story. Take on the role of agent 6, a Magnet Securities operative ordered to take out terrorists who have stormed LAX. Mission discretion is yours alone. How the mission proceeds, and how it ends, is up to you.Requires Amazon Kindle or Mobi for reader input to work.

If she doesn’t, then she’ll relive every injury the stone ever healed and no one had any idea how old the thing is. On her modified motorcycle and with a full tank of Jowndus juice the trip’s a piece of cake But it seems that Jazz had managed to rile up a squadron of Cranks and as fast as it is, her bike is no match for Crank flycraft, especially the Kriscrossa, the Crank’s elite fighter squadron. Seems like Jazz has two choices, run and get herself shot, or stand and fight and get herself shot.

A father behind bars. High school Sophomore Bailey Sykes is just trying to make it through another day. But when life starts to spiral out of control, and the suffering she endures becomes too much to bear, she writes a list— a list that cannot be unwritten. This crumpled piece of paper is more terrifying than a knife or gun. The names are marked with small ovals, shaped like bullets— like the bullets Bailey plans to take their lives with. It’s as if by writing their names down, I have already taken their lives. I feel more normal and clear-headed than ever when reading over my Bullet List. When I was a boy I imagined I was James Bond. When I grew up my adventures were not quite so spectacular. But when I became a writer, I decided my earlier imaginings had value. Hence, in this collection of Flash Fiction meet heroes, spies and villains aplenty, topped off with a series delving deep into the nature of conspiracy theory. But don't worry. Everything is under control. The Melbourne Writers’ Social Group began as a social outlet for those in a craft where most of their work is done in isolation. Our membership is a melting pot of novelists, short story writers, poets, playwrights, screenwriters, songwriters, and those who have an idea they want to write about, but don’t know where to begin. The events we organize have become the proverbial water cooler for those who use the written word as their creative outlet. This anthology is a representation of the spirit of what the Melbourne Writers’ Social Group is all about--cultivating an atmosphere where writers are encouraged to explore their passion, improve their craft, learn about their trade, and to do so in a social environment that is supportive and fun.The stories you will read are a snapshot of writers at various points in the development of their craft, each with different strengths and weaknesses, each with unique voices, and all of whom have done what each of us as writers believe we should always do more of--commit to a project, write it, submit it for feedback, revise and then finally submit it for publication and release into the world. The topic for this inaugural anthology is Valentine’s Day. We chose this topic because it’s a day that has the power to evoke warm, fuzzy, and romantic feelings or equally cold, harsh, and bitter ones. These writers have taken on the task of addressing this topic from their own original perspectives. So, as we say in the Group, we invite you to sit back with a cuppa or a drink, relax, and enjoy the following stories. May these pages charm and delight you, or run a chill up your spine, if you prefer.
